Release:

“At approximately 4:15 AM, a male entered the Circle K convenience store at 519 S. Davis Street/GA 125 in Nashville, Georgia, and approached the counter pretending to buy lottery tickets.  When the store clerk opened the cash register drawer the man pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded he be given all the money in the drawer.  The clerk immediately stepped back and the man reached over the counter and took an amount of cash, fled the store and drove away in a red Ford F150 pickup truck.

Store security video and interviews by Nashville PD Officers aided in the identification of the offender as 31-year-old Brandon Latray Lyas of Nashville.  At about 5:00 AM, a red Ford F150 pickup truck matching the description of the vehicle used in the robbery was observed parked behind an apartment building in the 700 block of Old Coffee Road.  Nashville Officers accompanied by backup assistance by Berrien County Deputies approached the truck and discovered Lyas inside.  He was immediately taken into custody without incident and a handgun matching witness description was recovered from inside the truck.  Lyas was lodged I the Berrien County Jail and charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.  Investigation continues.

Nashville Police Chief Chuck Edwards said “I am extremely proud of my officers for their quick action resulting in the timely location and arrest of Lyons and getting another unlawful firearm possession off the street.  I also want to thank Berrien County Sheriff Ray Paulk for allowing his deputies to assist us with the safe ending to a serious violent felony.”
