According to an AJC report, the FBI says a former Valdosta State University employee has been accused of making death threats against the faculty of several colleges.

Lake Park’s, Shawn Charles Merdinger, 50-years-old, has been charged for sending threatening email messages to colleges in Texas, California, Indiana and Georgia, including VSU. “Extreme violence” was threatened in the messages according to the FBI.

The FBI arrested Merdinger at his Lake Park home on Sunday, and they credited the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Valdosta State University police, and the colleges that received the threatening emails for helping to make the arrest possible.

Merdinger is currently booked in the Tift County Jail and has a hearing scheduled for Thursday.
