Lowndes County Schools Students Awarded Wiregrass Summer Construction Program Scholarships
VALDOSTA, GA — Lowndes County Schools is proud to recognize five outstanding Lowndes High School students who were selected to receive scholarships for the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Summer Construction Program.

The hands-on, two-week program is designed for graduating seniors interested in exploring careers in the construction industry and entering the workforce with valuable real-world experience and industry training. Students were selected through a competitive application process for both the program and scholarship opportunity.
Through the support of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, its Economic Development Team, and primary sponsor Georgia Power, each selected student received a scholarship valued at $715, covering the full cost of participation, including meals and beverages during the program.
Throughout the program, students will gain practical experience and workforce training in areas such as tool use and safety, OSHA 10 certification, framing, painting, flooring, roofing, electrical work, project design, and construction preparation. Participants will also have opportunities to engage with industry professionals through career fairs and interviews.
“These opportunities are incredibly valuable for our students as they begin preparing for their futures,” Superintendent Sandra Wilcher shared in the May School Board Meeting. “We are proud to continue creating career-ready pathways and hands-on learning experiences for our students.”

Partnerships like these help ensure students are equipped with the skills, experiences, and certifications needed for high-demand careers in our region.
