MACON — A Macon apartment fire has caused the death of a 7-year old boy.  However, it could have been much worse if not for the heroism of others.

Reports from the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department state that bystanders at the apartment fire saved the lives of two other children.

The children, ages 2 and 3, were helped to safety by others.  They could not reach the 7-year old boy, though, due to severe smoke.  When firefighters arrived with proper equipment they were able to pull the boy from the house, but it was too late.

Zantrell Russell, 7, was pronounced dead shortly after 10:30 Monday morning.  An autopsy will be performed on Russell’s body.
