TALLAHASSEE — Florida Govenor Rick Scott has requested more funds to help repair and construct charter schools in Florida.

The Governor announced Thursday he will ask the state’s lawmakers for $100 million in funding for the coming fiscal year to help Charter Schools with construction and repair costs.

Though Charter Schools are public institutions and thereby receive public funds, private groups most times operate the schools.  The state will provide $75 million in funding in the current year.

Nationally, there are over 250,000 students enrolled in about 650 Charter Schools.  Funding is the most common problem these schools usually face, sometimes even resulting in closings forcing children to relocate in mid-year.
