VALDOSTA – A 19-year-old Valdosta resident with multiple warrants was arrested by the VPD for firearm possession.

Release:

Arrested: Allen Maurice Waters, African American male, 19 years of age, Valdosta resident

On June 24, 2024, at approximately 2:15 pm., detectives were in the area of Ora Lee West Apartments when they observed a male, later identified as Allen Maurice Waters, 19 years of age, walking with a firearm concealed in the front of his clothing.  Detectives attempted to speak with Waters, and he fled from them on foot. Detectives located Waters walking from behind a residence in the 700 block of East Jane Street, holding a firearm in his hand. Upon detectives giving him verbal commands, Waters dropped the gun and began to run again. After a short foot pursuit, Waters was taken into custody. As detectives
attempted to walk Waters to a vehicle, Waters pulled away from detectives and started to run again. Waters was quickly taken back into custody.  Waters continued to attempt to physically pull away from detectives until he was put into a vehicle.

While checking the area where Waters dropped the firearm, a K9 Unit located a bag of marijuana.  Waters was also found to have four active felony arrest warrants, that were not related to this case.

Waters was transported to Lowndes County Jail, and he has been charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon;
  • Possession of marijuana-misdemeanor;
  • Tampering with evidence-misdemeanor;
  • Obstruction of an officer-misdemeanor; and
  • 4 active felony arrest warrants.

“This great proactive work by our detectives resulted in the seizure of a firearm from a convicted felon and the arrest of a person who had several active felony warrants.” Said Chief Leslie Manahan.
