BREAKING: One Dead in Shooting on East Jane Street

Update, 1:52 p.m., Valdosta Police Press Release:

On October 24, 2017 at approximately 10:30am, E-911 received an emergency call for service. The caller advised dispatch that a person had been shot while in the 600 block of E Jane Street. Numerous officers and detectives responded to the area. Contact was made with a subject who had been shot multiple times. VPD and LCSO units provided first aid and attempted CPR until the arrival of paramedics. The victim was then transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as 39 year old Tovara Flowers.

The crime scene was sealed off immediately and Crime Scene Technicians from the Valdosta/Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory were called in to assist along with VPD Bureau of Investigation Detectives.

During the investigation, the Valdosta City Camera system picked up a subject running from the area. A “BOLO” of Be On the Look Out was issued for the subject and a K-9 unit was deployed. Within minutes, Narcotics Detectives located the person of interest near the intersection of East Moore Street and North Forrest Street. The subject was detained and evidence was collected that may possibly connect the subject to the shooting. The person of interest was brought to the PD where he was interviewed by Person’s Crime Detectives. The person of interest has been identified as 31 year old Jean Claude Doricien. Doricien has been taken into custody and is being charged with Felony Murder, though further charges may be forthcoming. Doricien was transported to the Lowndes County Jail.

This appears to be an isolated incident and no further suspects are being sought.

“Chief Childress commented on how proud he was of the great work by all responding officers and detectives who had the offender in custody in less than two hours. Additionally, he advised how grateful he was to our city leaders for continuing to support the use and expansion of the city wide camera system that proved invaluable in this case,” said Lieutenant Adam Bembry.

Update, 11:42 a.m.:

A 39-year-old African American male was shot and killed in the 600 block of East Jane Street Tuesday morning, according to Valdosta Police Lt. Adam Bembry.

Bembry states the male was standing in the street and got into an altercation. He was then shot multiple times.

Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office were first on the scene and attempted CPR.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the victim is currently being withheld and a person of interest is being interviewed.

 

Valdosta – A shooting has been confirmed in the 600 block of East Jane Street, according to Valdosta Police Lt. Adam Bembry.

One person has been confirmed shot and has been transported to a local hospital. Bembry states the victim’s condition is serious.

One man has been detained.
