What Color is the General Lee?

The Dukes of Hazzard has been around since 1978 and 40+ years later it continues to garner attention and fans.

One of the main stars, John Schneider, who played Bo Duke, has a YouTube channel where he addresses many of the show’s burning questions, like, what color was the General Lee.

Apparently Schneider has had people telling him what color it was but he insists he knows the real answer.

“Here’s the color of the General lee. The General Lee was painted first in a paint shop which was at that time Burbank Studios, now Warner Bros. Studios in California,” Schneider says in his Feb. 3, 2020 video. “The car was painted orange from whatever color they had. They mixed up a color and painted a 69 Dodge Charger orange, made up from every color they had in the paint shop in 1978.”

Later, Schneider said, they mixed up a “mish-mash, a mutt” of orange.

“I was there,” Schneider said in a recent video on his YouTube profile. “I know. A lot of experts who claim to know what the color of the General Lee was weren’t there. Even people who were there later were not there when the show started when we went to Griffith Park to take the first pictures. When we took pictures with no ’01’ on the door and with the doors open, I was there. I’m a car guy. I asked the questions. If that car was a specific color, somebody would’ve told me. But what they told me at the paint department at the Burbank Studios was, ‘hell I don’t know, it’s just a combination of every orange we had.'”

Now you know.
