Share with friends

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Did you know that Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires? To ensure a safe holiday that you and your loved ones can fully enjoy, please consider taking our advice and stick to a safe, mishap-free Thanksgiving.

Below are a few holiday reminders to keep you and your family safe:

  1. Stay in the home when cooking your turkey, and stay in the kitchen when you’re cooking on the stovetop.
  2. Never leave children unattended in the kitchen and keep them away from knives and hot surfaces.
  3. Be sure items like electric cords from an electric knife, coffee makers, plate warmers, and mixers are not dangling off the counter within easy reach of a child.
  4. Make sure your smoke alarms are connected and working. Test them by pushing the test button.
  5. After your feast, walk around the home and ensure candles and fireplaces are extinguished, and unnecessary appliances have been turned off.
