When I bought this chair I had fully intended to recover it like usual, but my plan changed. When I started taking the chair apart I fell in love with the wooden frame/structure. It made
me think of the Restoration Hardware look called ‘Deconstructed’. I had put this look in my ‘piggy bank’, as I like to call it, a while ago and resolved to use this technique when the right piece came along. I honestly thought the right piece would be a barrel shaped chair, but this wing back was just begging me to leave its beautiful wood frame exposed for all the world to see.
I came across this photo on Pinterest (of course) of a chair that was upholstered in a steel blue on the front and a natural fabric on the back. It wasn’t really a deconstructed look but the fabric combo got my attention because I remembered seeing a bolt of fabric at the local thrift store that was almost the same steel blue color….I had also put the bolt of fabric in my ‘piggy bank’ a while ago. Sometimes it works out that way, where the whole redesign comes from my ‘piggy bank’ of inspirations and ideas.
Looks like a good place to curl up with a book on a rainy day to me!
