VALDOSTA, Ga. — Not everyone is built for night shifts, and falling asleep while working night shifts can have disastrous consequences. Kendrick Martin learned this the hard way.

On January 4, 2020, at approximately 12:08 a.m., a Patrol Captain with Valdosta Police Department observed a vehicle sitting at a stop sign in the 400 block of East Magnolia Street. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Kendrick Martin, was sleeping.

While conducting the investigation Martin put the vehicle in gear as if he was going to flee, so officers removed him from the vehicle.

We are proud our officers were able to get these narcotics before they could be put out on the streets. Officers never know what is going to turn up during a traffic stop, so they must always be prepared for anything.

Lt. Scottie Johns, VPD

In the vehicle, officers located both powder cocaine and crack cocaine packaged for sale. Martin was transported to Lowndes County Jail and charged with ‘Possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute’.
