VALDOSTA, Ga. — A Lowndes county woman, Aretha Pierce, 85, died in a Lowndes County home located at 5337 Oak Drive South on December 11.

The house trailer was swallowed by flames by the time Lowndes County firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:04 p.m., continuing to fight the conflagration until 5:40 p.m.

An investigation showed it was caused from a cooking fire and Ms. Pierce died of smoke inhalation.

This is the third life taken by house fires recently in Lowndes County.
