VFD Responds to 2 Fires Wednesday

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Two fires have kept the Valdosta Fire Department busy on Wednesday morning.

VFP received a call about a structure fire at 2209 Oakdale Drive first, around 2:43 a.m. The first fire unit arrived within six minutes and reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.  The fire was quickly extinguished by the crews on scene.  All occupants were alerted by working smoke alarms and exited the house prior to the fire department’s arrival. Two dogs were rescued by fire personnel on scene. There were no injuries reported. Red Cross was notified to assist 5 displaced occupants.

The second call came around 5:17 a.m. about a fire at apartment number 18 located at 2406 Bemiss Rd Apt. 18. The first fire unit arrived within four minutes and reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.  The fire was quickly extinguished by the crews on scene.  All occupants were alerted by a popping noise and exited the apartment prior to the fire department’s arrival. There were no injuries reported. Red Cross was notified to assist 2 displaced occupants. There was a total of 16 VFD personnel on scene.

The causes of both fires are under investigation at this time.
