We all survived the weekend of severe storms and near-Biblical rains with some washed out roads and flash flooding. But, the time has come to get back to school, kiddos -and staff!
The following are the schools that will resume tomorrow.
These are the schools opening back up tomorrow:
- LOWNDES COUNTY SCHOOLS – Will Reopen Tomorrow, December 4, All Lowndes County Schools and system offices will re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4, on a normal schedule. Due to road conditions, buses may be delayed but all bus routes will run. Please use caution in traveling to bus stops and to school
- VALDOSTA CITY SCHOOLS – Will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4. School officials have been in constant communication with local emergency management officials throughout the day. We have been given an overview of the areas with the most substantial impacts of flooding. If any of our students or staff members live near those areas and feel that it is unsafe to travel, they are encouraged to contact their school’s administration team who will also have lists of the impacted areas. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we have worked to determine the best course of action for the entire school district. We look forward to seeing everyone who can safely return to school tomorrow.
- BROOKS COUNTY SCHOOLS – Will open tomorrow , Tuesday, December 4. We are asking that parents meet the bus at the nearest paved road. We appreciate your patience as we worked with officials to make this decision. Parents can contact their child(ren)’s school directly if they have extenuating circumstances concerning travel.
- ECHOLS COUNTY SCHOOLS – Will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4
- BROOKS COUNTY SCHOOLS – Will open tomorrow – Tuesday, December 4. We are asking that parents meet the bus at the nearest paved road. We appreciate your patience as we worked with officials to make this decision. Parents can contact their child(ren)’s school directly if they have extenuating circumstances concerning travel.
- CLINCH COUNTY REMAINS CLOSED – Due to ongoing road conditions from heavy rains, school is cancelled for students and staff again on Tuesday, December 4th. We hope to resume our normal schedule Wednesday, December 5th. Again, no school for students or staff again tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4th. We anticipate returning to our normal schedule on Wednesday December 5th.
- VALWOOD – Will re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4! Please drive safe and use caution while traveling to school.
- GEORGIA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL (GCS) will resume a normal schedule tomorrow, Dec 4th (Tue).
- COFFEE COUNTY – Coffee County Schools will reopen and follow our regular schedule tomorrow, December 4.
- LANIER COUNTY SCHOOLS – Classes resume on Tuesday, Dec. 4

NOTICE:SCHOOL CLOSINGS
UPDATE: VALDOSTA SCHOOL SYSTEM will be open after Superintendent toured the schools and no damage was assessed
LOWNDES: After consulting with Lowndes EMA and out of an abundance of caution, all Lowndes County Schools and System offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, December 3. Many roads are flooded and/or closed.
GEORGIA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL: Closed on Monday, December 3, due to potential flooding in the area.
VALWOOD SCHOOL: Closed tomorrow, Monday, December 3, due to weather condition and flooded and/or closed roads. Our first priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff.

ST. JOHN’s School – Closed Monday
CLINCH: Due to road conditions from bursts of heavy rain that are expected to continue throughout the night, school is cancelled for students and staff for Monday, December 3. We hope to resume our normal schedule on Tuesday. Again, no school for students or staff on Monday, December 3. We anticipate returning to our normal schedule on Tuesday December 4th.
BROOKS COUNTY: Due to heavy rain in our area, please prepare to meet the bus at the nearest paved road tomorrow morning.
LANIER COUNTY: The Lanier County School System is currently monitoring weather and road conditions. We will make a final decision regarding school tomorrow by 7:30 p.m. this evening, 12/2/18. The decision will be pushed out through our call out system as well as a posting on Twitter.
COFFEE COUNTY: After consulting with our Local Emergency Management Officials and our Transportation Director, the decision has been made to cancel school tomorrow for students. There is a tremendous amount of water on the roads and the County Road Department recommended that we cancel school to give them a chance to work on the roads tomorrow. For the safety of our students and bus drivers, we are heeding their advice. Faculty and Staff will report at 8:00 am. Thank you and stay safe!
ECHOLS COUNTY: Echols County Schools are canceled tomorrow Monday December 3, 2018 because of flooded roads. Cancellation is for all students and employees.
