Two suspects arrested with two pounds of meth following I-75 police chase through Lowndes

LOWNDES COUNTY – Two suspects are behind bars, accused of leading police on a chase through Georgia and Florida.

Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., Lowndes County deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 75.

Deputies say Randy Cheatham was driving the vehicle with Maegan Wright was a passenger.

The vehicle failed to stop and continued speeding up, exiting on Highway 31. Lowndes County deputies continued to follow the vehicle into Madison, Florida. Madison Police began assisting with the chase.

The vehicle came to a stop near a wooded area in Madison, where Cheatham and Wright abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, deputies say. K-9s tracked the two for 3 miles into the woods.

The suspects were arrested and taken to the Madison County Jail.

Deputies searched the vehicle and recovered 2 pounds of methamphetamine.

Both suspects are facing several charges, including trafficking of meth. The driver, Cheatham, is listed as an Adel resident. He is also facing several traffic charges, charges for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and fleeing and attempting to elude.
