VALDOSTA – Thanks to dry conditions and a nearby wildfire, Lowndes County officials are asking residents to follow the law when it comes to burning.
Dozens of illegal burning incidents have occurred since January. Burning with a permit is only allowed in Lowndes County on the first and third Saturdays of the month. Burning is only allowed for yard waste. Burning trash is always prohibited.
The fine for illegal burning could be up to one thousand dollars, or 30 days in jail.
