On Friday at approximately 3:18 p.m., TFC Patrick Orr #249 was dispatched to a crash on Shiloh Road approximately 100 feet south of Miller Bridge Road in Lowndes County.
A white Toyota Corolla, driven by 23 year old Rebekah Anne North of Hahira was traveling north on Shiloh Road attempting to negotiate a curve. A silver Kenworth T880 tractor trailer, driven by 59 year old Wesley Lee Griffin of Valdosta was traveling south on Shiloh Road attempting to negotiate the same curve. The tractor trailer was owned by Reames and Sons Construction of Valdosta.
The Corolla traveled across the center line into the southbound lane of Shiloh Road. The Corolla struck the driver’s side front end of the Kenworth with the driver’s side front end of the Corolla. The Corolla then rotated counter clockwise and traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway. The Corolla traveled into a ditch and came to final rest facing southeast. After impact, the Kenworth traveled to the east shoulder of the roadway into a ditch coming to a final rest facing southeast.
Ms. North was trapped and extricated using the jaws of life. Ms. North was then flown via Air Med to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for her injuries.
Mr. Griffin sustained minor injuries to his arm but was treated on scene. Both drivers were properly restrained. Air bags did deploy in the Corolla.
Troopers suspect that Ms. North may have been distracted by cell phone use. No drugs or alcohol are suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision.
The roadway was closed until approximately 6:43 p.m.
At the time of this release, Ms. North is in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. This crash is still under investigation and any possible charges are pending.
