Brian Massey, Berrick Redding, and Cordarrius Clay have been arrested in connection with the death of Curtis Davis Jr. who was shot and killed in Albany in December. Warrants have also been issued for Treshawn Palmer, Alonze Jones and Montrevious Parks and Hudie Johnson. Johnson is the only suspect that was not already in jail. Their charges range from felony murder to conspiracy and aggravated assault. Officials say more arrests could be made.
The Watershed Coalition will hold a meeting Thursday at the Live Oak Women’s Club and the group of environmentalists is inviting all interested citizens to join them in opposition to the Spectra-Energy-Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline that will pass through Clyattville. Among the expected attendees will be the Sierra Club of Florida and Sacred Water Camp on the Suwannee. Officials say that the pipeline should be in place in the spring.
Governor Nathan Deal addressed the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and touted the state’s K-12 policies on education and their relevance in preparing students even at early ages to grow and later participate in high demand career fields. Deal cited the STEM and computer coding programs giving young students the types of skills that their future employers will be looking for. He also pointed to the success of the Move On When Ready and apprenticeship initiatives. The Move On When Ready program hosted nearly 15,000 high school students and over 150 companies are partnering with the apprenticeship program with more than 6,000 participants; an increase of over 2,450 students-a 40 percent increase.
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Association presents its annual commemoration program Sunday January 15th at 3 pm. The program will be held at the St. Paul A.M.E. Church 419 S. Ashley Street. The speaker is Pastor Charley Vinson of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. The youth program will be held at Mathis Auditorium Monday January 16th at 11 am with speaker Trey Cureton. Lunch will be served immediately following the program.
