Motorcyclist airlifted after Lowndes County chase

LOWNDES Co. – A motorcyclist was flown by helicopter for medical treatment after leading law enforcement on chase Sunday night on Interstate 75 in Lowndes County.

At approximately 11 p.m., a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputy reportedly attempted a traffic stop of a driver of a Kawasaki Ninja. The driver was reportedly speeding on I-75 south.

When the deputy pulled alongside the driver to instruct him to stop, the motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and crashed near Mile Marker 9, reports WALB.

The driver, Cody Leonard, of St. George, Georgia was transported by helicopter to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida for treatment of injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.
