VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Fire Department is investigating a blaze that consumed a building early Friday morning.

The Valdosta Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported building fire at 608 E. Hill Avenue. The first unit arrived at 02:40 a.m. to find heavy smoke and flames venting through the roof at which time units made an aggressive exterior fire attack. They used the aerial master streams and multiple hand lines to extinguish the flames.

There was a total of 12 fire apparatus and 23 fire personnel on the scene. The last fire unit cleared the scene at 8:00 a.m.

The Valdosta Police Department assisted with traffic control and Georgia Power secured all electrical utilities. SGMC EMS Unit assisted VFD personnel with firefighter rehabilitation.

The building was not occupied and there were no injuries reported on the scene. The fire, which caused approximately $25,000 worth of damage, is currently under investigation.
