LOWNDES Co. – A Florida man released from prison in April after serving 10 years for his part in a deadly home invasion was arrested Thursday during an Interstate 75 traffic stop in Lowndes County for alleged possession of heroin, crack and powder cocaine and other drugs.
At approximately 10:20 a.m., a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a Pontiac Grand Prix traveling south on I-75 at 84 m.p.h., according to LCSO Capt. Stryde Jones.
“While talking with the driver, (the deputy) began to smell an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and noticed the driver, Deyonco Jackson, was extremely nervous,” Jones said. “The deputy performed a search of the vehicle and located 19 grams of Heroin, Crack and powder Cocaine weighing 5 grams collectively, a bag of Ecstasy pills, a bag of Alprazolam pills, digital scales commonly used for weighing drugs and a Smith & Wesson 9 millimeter handgun that had been reported as stolen from Marion County, Florida.”
The drugs were reportedly packaged as if to be sold.
Jackson was arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of ecstasy with the intent to distribute, possession of alprazolam with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, theft by receiving stolen property, speeding, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to LCSO reports.
“Our detectives are continuing to work on this and will be working with Marion County detectives regarding the stolen gun,” said Sheriff Chris Prine. “This was great work by the deputies to recognize that something other than speeding was occurring and to continue investigating. Anytime drugs can be taken off the street it’s a good day and to recover someone’s firearm just adds to it.”
Jackson was convicted in 2012 in connection with a 2006 home invasion in Marion Oaks, Fla. that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Kindrell Stocker. Jackson, known to the Florida Department of Corrections as Deyonco Flowers, accepted a plea bargain for his testimony against two other men involved in the home invasion. Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in prison and received six years credit for the time spent in jail while his case was pending.
