Release from the Valdosta Police Department

At approximately 12:34 am this morning, Valdosta Police Officers responded to the 500 block of Hamilton Street in reference to a subject who had been shot.  Upon arrival, they found the victim, 54 year old African American male who had suffered from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Officers immediately administered first aid to the victim on scene and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived and transported the victim to South Georgia Medical Center where he is currently in critical condition.

Valdosta Police Detectives and a Crime Scene Technician from the Valdosta/Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory responded to the scene. The department has located witnesses and are also reviewing evidence from the incident. A motive is still being investigated.
