
VALDOSTA – The Lowndes County Commission held the first of three public hearings regarding a proposed millage rate increase Tuesday morning, and officials presented explanations to an empty room, reports the Valdosta Daily Times.
County officials have proposed a 11.37 percent increase, setting the millage rate at 8.974, the highest rate since 2005.
A second hearing was held Tuesday evening. A third hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. August 23 at the Lowndes County Judicial Complex.
