VALDOSTA – The Walmart Supercenter on Inner Perimeter Road was evacuated Monday afternoon after the store received a telephone call claiming a bomb had been placed in the store.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., Walmart shoppers heard an announcement over the store’s speaker system asking everyone in the store to leave their shopping carts where they were and to exit the store.

The Valdosta Police Department was called in to investigate the bomb threat. The VPD Explosive Detective K-9 was assisted by a bomb-sniffing dog from Moody Air Force Base.

After a search from the store was completed, Walmart management reopened the store around 4:30 p.m.

The Valdosta Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
