LOWNDES Co. – Motorists should expect a traffic disruption this week on Interstate 75 north near the weigh station for a statewide Georgia Department of Transportation project called Weigh in Motion.
The work is expected to impact only the outside (right) lane of I-75 north in Lowndes County and will be done only if the weather is favorable.
The Weigh in Motion project involves installing weigh scales in outside interstate lanes approximately 3,000 feet upstream of each of the existing 19 weigh stations to prescreen commercial vehicles. It is expected to minimize the time that commercial vehicles have to wait at inspection stations.
The northbound outside lane will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, April 14, to 5 a.m. Friday, April 15, between mileposts 22 and 23.
The lane will then reopen and the same section of I-75 north will close again at 9 p.m. Friday, April 15, and remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday, April 18. All work is weather permitting.
