ALBANY – Six individuals, including two doctors, have been indicted on charges of running a massive “pill mill” in Valdosta and Columbus.
Federal prosecutors say millions of pain killers like Oxycodone and hydrocodone were dispensed to hundreds of patients through the Wellness Center of Valdosta and the Relief Institute of Columbus.
Carol Biggs, a.k.a Carol Johnson, opened both businesses. She appeared before an Albany Federal Court judge on Tuesday.
Dr. William Bacon and Dr. Donatus Mbanefo were also named in the indictment for conspiracy.
Prosecutors allege the defendants made hundreds of thousands of dollars from selling the illegal prescriptions and pills from 2011 to 2013.
A trial will be held in Valdosta Federal Court, reports WALB.
