Details are sketchy on a Highway 319 vehicular crash just outside Ocilla. Troopers with the Georgia State patrol shutdown traffic for a while this morning and detours were put in place. Two people have been killed in the crash
As many as seven more arrests have been made in connection with the shooting death of a Moultrie mother who was shot and killed at the Ryce Community center Park. 16 year old Jaquan Willis was arrested and charged with felony murder and officials say that he could be tried as an adult. Now, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announces the arrests of 24 year old Alden Roberts, Jr., 17 year old Ja’Michael Simpson, 17 year old Billy Rushing and four other juveniles. The group of seven had been involved in a fight earlier. Fatisha Clark was with her children when bullets were fired from a passing vehicle; she was wounded and later died at a hospital.
The Associated press reports that members of the Georgia Senate will vote on a bill allowing licensed gun owners to carry concealed weapons on public college campuses. The proposal backed by the National Rifle Association has won support from a Senate panel in spite of opposition from the governing board for the university system. The proposal exempts athletic facilities and student housing, including fraternity and sorority houses. Georgia’s House already has approved the bill. If it passes the Senate without changes, the measure would go to Republican Gov. Nathan Deal, who has voiced support for the concept. Opponents say allowing guns on campus will put students in harm’s way and make police officers’ jobs more difficult. Supporters argue people should be able to defend themselves.
