LOWNDES CO. – A Lowndes County man who has eluded authorities for weeks was arrested Friday afternoon.

John Wesley Walton, 35, was arrested under a bridge in Naylor by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, reports WCTV.

Walton faces multiple charges stemming from Feb. 13 traffic stop in which he fled from a Georgia State Patrol trooper. Troopers reportedly discovered methamphetamine, a handgun, handcuffs and pepper spray during a search of Walton’s vehicle, reports stated.

Walton left the area in a stolen truck. Walton and the truck were later found in Mississippi, but Walton eluded authorities again, nearly striking a U.S. Marshal with his truck.

In Lowndes County, Walton faces charges of Felony Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Tools Used in the Commission of a Crime, Misdemeanor Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor Giving False Name and Date of Birth to Law Enforcement and several traffic related Misdemeanors, according to GSP reports.

Walton will faces the charge of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer in Mississippi, according to GSP reports.
