VALDOSTA – Two inmates died Tuesday night at Valdosta State Prison after they reportedly started a fire in their a prison cell.

Georgia Department of Corrections officials said Cody Vestal, 36, and Richard Strickland, 31, were pronounced at VSP Wednesday evening. The men reportedly started a fire in their cell and died in the flames, reports WALB.

Lowndes County Deputy Coroner William Carter was notified about the incident at 6:30 p.m.
