VALDOSTA – A woman has been indicted for vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol in the 2014 death of a Lake Park man.

Jessica Nicole Nichols was indicted Friday by a Lowndes County Superior Court grand jury. Nichols is charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, failure to maintain lane and failure to wear safety belt, according to court documents.

On June 6, 2014, Nichols allegedly consumed alcohol and drove a black 2007 BMW at a high rate of speed on Hagan Bridge Road. Passengers were reportedly sitting on top of the vehicle as it was being driven, according to court documents.

The grand jury’s indictment states Nichols’ actions led to the death of Robert Lloyd White, 23, of Lake Park, who was one of the passengers sitting on the roof of the car, said Assistant District Attorney Brad Shealy. White was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida where he died as the result of his injuries.

White was a Madison County Elementary School substitute teacher.

A court date for Nichols’ case has yet to be determined.
