ALBANY — Serious flooding problems are expected in Lee County as a result of rain fall for local waterways.

According to reports from WALB, the Lee County EMA Director is warning residents that creeks will rise rapidly and he expects serious flooding problems Saturday morning, continuing through the entire day.

The river crested Friday night at the Pinewood Road bridge at 21 feet, according to the WALB report. The flood level reached a little more than half a foot from the point it did during the devastating flood in 1998. Many of the homes flooded then were either elevated or not rebuilt to avoid widespread damage.

Some homes will be taking on water during the current flood. Emergency officials encouraged, but did not order evacuations.

Several roads in Lee Co. were closed last night:

Public works crews blocked both entrances to Cypress Point Circle. Creekside Drive is closed at the intersection with Knollwood Drive. Uncle Jimmys Lane is closed as is Eagle Pond Road between Old Smithville Road and Gosa Road.
