VALDOSTA — Law enforcement agencies have posted additional warnings to citizens related to reported scams.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office has again received a number of calls from citizens who have been contacted by scammers posing as agents with the Internal Revenue Service.
The caller has threatened to sue or arrest the person if they don’t immediately send money to cover alleged back-due taxes. Citizens are reminded that these calls are not legitimate and often originate from random telephone numbers.
The I.R.S., nor any law enforcement agency, will ever call you and demand money if lieu of being arrested or sued. If you receive such a call do not provide the caller any information and hang up.
