Sanford Bishop

ATLANTA — Congressman Sanford Bishop has announced he will seek a 12th term as the representative to Congress from the 2nd District of Georgia.

In an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Bishop was asked if he will seek a 12th term.

“Absolutely,” he told the paper.

“I look forward to continuing to represent the 2nd Congressional District and I’m thoroughly convinced that I can do what needs to be done,” Bishop said. “And the folks in southwest Georgia need a voice to articulate their aims and aspirations and their needs and concerns, and they have entrusted me with that authority and that public trust.”

Bishop won his last election by a wide margin, earning 59% of the vote.

Bishop joins fellow Democrat John Lewis in publicly announcing his desire to run for re-election.
