LAKELAND — The Lanier County Sheriff’s Department reports deputies responded to what reports are calling a hostage situation early Friday morning.
Deputies arrived on the scene at a home on 19 Thigpen Circle to the sound of gunshots being fired. Deputies cordoned off the area without hearing additional shots. No deputies were struck by gunshots.
Deputies called the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team who then cleared the house. The result was one man, described in a report by WALB as the son of the homeowner, being shot. Reports did not state what the son’s involvement in the incident was nor the condition of his injuries from the shooting.
The son was taken to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
As of this time, no further information has been made available, including details as to the cause of the shooting and any related hostage situation.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is involved and some people have been detained for questioning. At this time, no suspects have been named, charges nor arrests made.
