VALDOSTA — Additional information was released by local law enforcement stating the accident involving the 4-year old child was not a hit and run or leaving the scene of an accident.

The driver of the vehicle, as well as 4 passengers in the vehicle, spoke with Valdosta Police officers Friday.   The driver stated she was traveling westbound on Blue Pool, behind another vehicle in front of her.

The first vehicle swerved to avoid striking the child who was very close to the roadway.  Her vehicle, a gray Jeep Cherokee, drove very slowly past the child who was standing at the end of the driveway.

The driver said as she passed by at approximately 5 miles per hour, she heard something hit the back of her vehicle so she stopped.  The mother of the child came from several houses away and checked the child over.

She then told the driver that the child was fine and the mother took the child inside the house.  The driver of the vehicle then drove away after checking on the well being of the child and only left after the mother indicated the child was fine and took the child inside.

According to the police statement, the traffic officer investigating this case will review the information received and at this time no charges have been filed.  There is no one being sought related at this event.  However, the case will be further investigated.
