LOWNDES — Lowndes High honored seniors preparing for future careers in education through Georgia Future Educators Signing Day.

Valdosta, GA – Lowndes High School recently celebrated Georgia Future Educators Signing Day, honoring students who are taking the next steps toward careers in education through the Georgia Department of Education’s initiative to encourage and support future teachers across the state.
Students recognized during the ceremony included Angela Brown, Akeelah Brooklin, Karley Chaney, Avie Dawkins, Hara Harrison, Zaleesia Jackson, Haylee Lightsey, Malor Rogers, Emey Saddler, Ireland Sledge, and Zy’Aun Newsome-Nickson.
Under the leadership of educators Andrea Bridges and Gina Arnold, these students completed either the Teaching as a Profession or Early Childhood Education pathway, where they learned the foundations of education, from lesson planning and classroom management to understanding how to meet diverse student needs and even exploring professional topics such as educator benefit plans and career expectations. Through the pathway, students also gained valuable hands-on experience by participating in real classroom observations and student teaching opportunities, all while still in high school.
Superintendent Sandra Wilcher congratulated the students on their dedication, leadership, and passion for serving others, while also sharing that each pathway completer is guaranteed an interview with Lowndes County Schools upon graduating from college.
“Once a Viking, always a Viking,” Wilcher shared. “We are proud to see these students pursuing careers in education and look forward to the possibility of welcoming them back to inspire future generations in our classrooms.”
