Release:
ARRESTED: Kayla Michelle Altman, Caucasian female, 28 years of age, Valdosta resident
ARRESTED: Monte Gene McRae, African American male, 29 years of age, Valdosta resident
On August 29, 2024, at approximately 1:45 pm., Valdosta Police Officers were in the 300 block of Sawgrass Drive, investigating suspicious activity. Officers received information that subjects who had active arrest warrants were possibly located inside a residence. Officers contacted the homeowner at the front door, who allowed the officers inside the residence to look for the subjects.
While searching the residence, officers observed a piece of clothing sticking out of the pantry in the kitchen. When they opened the pantry door, they located Kayla Michelle Altman, 28 years of age, hiding inside. As they attempted to get Altman out of the pantry, she physically resisted the officers, who were eventually able to take her into custody.
Officers confirmed that Altman had active warrants through the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. Officers continued to check the residence for Monte Gene McRae, 29 years of age, who also had active arrest warrants. As officers were checking a laundry room, they observed a large pile of clothing. McRae was found hiding under the clothing. Officers confirmed that McRae also had active arrest warrants through the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Both Altman and McRae were transported to Lowndes County Jail for their active arrest warrants. Altman was also charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer (misdemeanor). McRae received an additional charge of giving a false name and date of birth to a law enforcement officer (misdemeanor).
“Our officers did an outstanding job being persistent during their search. They knew both subjects were in the residence and after a thorough search, both subjects were found.” Said Chief Leslie Manahan.
