VALDOSTA – An On-Duty Valdosta Police Officer was involved in an accident due to a medical issue while driving a patrol car.

On May 10, 2023, at approximately 1:33 am., an On-Duty Valdosta Police Officer appeared to have suffered a medical issue while driving his patrol car. A citizen called E911 to report that he had observed an overturned vehicle in a ditch, near the 2-mile marker on Highway 84 West.
Lowndes County Deputies arrived on the scene and found that it was a patrol vehicle which had overturned, and they immediately observed signs of injury to the officer. Emergency Medical Services and supervisors with the Valdosta Police Department immediately responded to the accident. Georgia State Patrol was notified and responded to investigate the accident.
The officer was transported to South Georgia Medical Center, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
