Goodwill Working Hard Behind The Scenes To Connect People To

Employment Despite Temporary Closures
Over 350 Jobs Available With Businesses In The Community Eager To Fill Open Positions

Columbus, Ga. — As COVID-19 spreads across the country forcing countless business closures, thousands of people now find themselves unemployed. Yet, despite the temporary closure of its retail stores and career centers, Goodwill is still working hard behind the scenes to render much needed assistance to displaced workers and businesses alike.

The non-profit’s mission is to change lives through the power of work, and it offers a host of free services to support the employment-related needs of the community, funded almost entirely by revenue generated in its retail stores. While the services have been temporarily reduced due to social distancing requirements, the organization is continuing to offer career services to clients in the community via telephone. Individuals who are in need of assistance with their job search, have career questions or need help with career skills to help them gain employment should call the Goodwill Career Center nearest you and speak with a career center specialist today.

Goodwill President and CEO, Jack Warden, stated, “For over 100 years, Goodwill has been putting people to work, and our services are needed now like never before. Since our doors closed to the public on March 20 th , our career center staff has been working remotely with our employer partners and we have identified approximately 350 jobs that are immediately available across west Georgia and east Alabama.”

A comprehensive list of those jobs can be found on the Goodwill website at goodwillsr.org/work.

Further, Goodwill’s in-person tax preparation services have been halted, but individuals can still get their taxes done for free at GetYourRefund.org. Please visit goodwillsr.org/vita for more information.

While our retail stores are temporarily closed, all of our donor doors and donation centers remain open. We look forward to resuming normal operations of all our stores allowing our nearly 700 employees to return to work.
