Man Caught with Drugs in Hand During Traffic Stop

VALDOSTA, Ga.— During a traffic stop for a traffic violation, a driver attempted to conceal his illegal narcotics in his hand. The officers, who clearly saw the poorly hidden substances, began to place the driver under arrest. The man, later identified as Corey Bressant-Pegues, struggled against the officers as his passengers attempted to flee the scene on foot. One of the men who fled was caught and identified as Christopher Williams. Both men were arrested on an assortment of charges.

February 27, 2020, at approximately 9:32 pm, officers with the Valdosta Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. While speaking with the driver, later identified as Corey Bressant-Pegues, the officer noticed Bressant-Pegues was concealing narcotics in his hand. While detaining Bressant-Pegues, he physically resisted arrest but officers were able to detain him after a brief struggle. The other two occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. Officers were able to apprehend, Christopher Williams, one of the subjects that fled.  When Williams ran from the vehicle, he disposed of a bag that contained quantities of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other scheduled narcotics.

Bressant-Pegues was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges:

  • Obstruction of a law enforcement officer-misdemeanor 
  • Possession of marijuana-misdemeanor
  • Possession of cocaine-felony

Williams was transported to Lowndes County Jail on the following charges:

  • Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute-felony
  • Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute-felony
  • Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute-felony
  • Possession of a schedule III,IV or V controlled substance with intent to distribute-felony
  • Possession of a schedule II controlled substance-felony
  • Possession and use of drug related objects-misdemeanor
  • Obstruction of a law enforcement officer-misdemeanor

The case is still under investigation and further charges are pending.
