VCS Searching for New Head Football Coach

VALDOSTA, Ga. – A job posting was made on Feb. 3 for head varsity football coach on the Valdosta City Schools website which can be found here.

Valdosta City Schools Board of Education made a controversial decision at its Jan. 28, 2020 meeting by voting not to renew head football coach Alan Rodemaker’s contract and is reportedly actively searching for a replacement.

In spite of the BOE’s vote and replacement search, Rodemaker has support from many students that turned out at the VCS BOE Superintendent’s Office on Williams Street last week, all of whom stated how discouraged they were that he wouldn’t be their coach anymore.

Rodemaker has been vocal since the non-renewal, hiring attorneys Sam Dennis and John Holt and demanding a recount at the next VCS BOE meeting, which will be held at the larger venue of the Valdosta Performing Arts Center at 3101 N. Forrest St. on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. anticipating a large turnout by the public.

VCS BOE members who voted to not renew Rodemaker’s contract were Warren Lee, Liz Shumphard, Tyra Howard, Debra Bell and Kelisa Brown, while Kelly Wilson, Trey Sherwood, Tad Moseley and Stacy Bush voted to renew.

A public forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 27. at Pinevale.

Alan Rodemaker has been coaching at VHS for 11 years total and was hired in 2016 as the Wildcats head coach, winning a state title that same year.
