LOWNDES CO., Ga. – Lowndes EMA has released the following information regarding the predicted bad weather coming our way:

A squall line has developed over Alabama and is going to move East, into our area, throughout the day.

While we may see some sporadic rain showers and wind gusts during the day, the squall line, and the severe threat is expected to impact our area somewhere between the 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. time frame. The squall line seems to be moving slower rather than faster so while forecasters can’t pinpoint the exact time Lowndes County will see the squall line, they do feel confident that it will not arrive prior to the 5 p.m. window.

Once the squall line does arrive it should move through quickly (30-40 minutes), but while it is here it is expected to produce strong, damaging winds with gusts of 60-70 mph possible. This could, and likely will, result in numerous downed trees and power outages across the area.

Rainfall totals for the day are expected to be around 2 – 2 1/2 inches. Rainfall during the squall line could be briefly heavy but flooding is not expected to be a problem.
