LOWNDES CO., Ga. – For all of you frightfully Halloween-loving freaks out there, here’s a comprehensive list of every place we could find offering spooktacular haunts!
If you have more, please let us know and we will add them!
Some of these attractions have been scaring you for years, others just getting their spook on!
Pavo Haunted House is one of the old timer haints and they are still going full force created 15 years ago by Sallie Burgess in front of the office in Pavo where she’s worked the last 20 years. The very first haunted house consisted of a single room made of black poly under the office awning where her husband would chase anyone brave enough to enter with a mask and chainsaw. The second year expanded to the whole length of the office weaving in and out of a couple themed rooms with just her family and office crew for actors attracting more each year until they were forced to move to the old Pavo school where it exploded into loads of themed rooms and over 100 actors! Sallie’s idea came from her roots in Orlando where her and hubby grew up with parents who loved scaring trick-or-treaters in their neighborhoods and as teens would hit haunted houses across Greater Orlando in October. The idea of something fun and new in a small town with lots of hard work has finally put Pavo back on the map! Burgess says she couldn’t have done it without her partner Kenneth Lasseter of 11 years who does all their video and audio, helps with layout, construction, builds props, and the décor you see inside. A very small handful creates Pavo Haunted House but it takes a village to pull it off eight nights a year.
“We are so honored and thankful for our haunt family who have helped make us the top two fan voted must-see haunted houses in the state of Georgia for the last three years,” Sallie said.
You can see things they do with proceeds on their Pay It Forward Page at pavohauntedhouse.com.
