LOWNDES CO., Ga. – The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority is honored to host the 2019 Special Olympics State Fall Games at Freedom Park this weekend.
Athletes will compete in Softball and Bocce events at the park from Friday, October 11th through Sunday October 13th, while golfers will play at Stone Creek Golf Club on Saturday, October 12th. Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for 7:30 PM Friday night at the Lowndes High School Gym.
VLPRA has worked for several years with Special Olympics Georgia to bring the event to town. It is a three-year commitment, meaning State Fall Games will be back in 2020 and 2021.
Around 2,500 athletes from around the state are expected to come to Valdosta this weekend along with around 500 family members, according to the Special Olympics Georgia website.
