VALDOSTA – The Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority names retired Valdosta Police Chief Frank Simons as interim executive director. Simons brings more than 41 years of government service experience, including 25 years managing teams as a Chief of Police and 17 years leading Valdosta’s largest department.
“Frank’s leadership skills, dedication and ability to connect with people make him the best candidate to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Conference Center as we begin our search for an executive director,” says Valdosta-Lowndes County Tourism Authority Operations Committee Chair Rob Evans.
As Valdosta Police Chief, Simons managed the renovation of the headquarters, implemented new personnel training and improved the service and efficiency of officers through the use of technology. In 2010, under his leadership, the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Laboratory was created.
Simons will begin his role as interim, effective immediately, following the departure of Tim Riddle. The Valdosta-Lowndes County Tourism Authority will conduct a professional search for a qualified candidate to fill the executive director position.
