A fundraising effort is underway to benefit the family of Addison Seacrist. The eight year old girl is a cancer survivor but help with the expenses associated with follow up care, treatment and travel to and from the medical facility in Jacksonville is vital. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family. The girl’s mother Jocelyn Seacrist decided to leave her job in order to take care of her daughter. Her father Jason Seacrist iterates that there are many children fighting childhood cancer.
The family of Kendrick Johnson will pay homage to the memory of the Lowndes High student whose body was discovered in the school’s old gymnasium several years ago. The events include a Saturday January 7th march from Lowndes High to Sunset Hill Cemetery 1 p.m., at 7 p.m. a remembrance gala takes place at the Rainwater Conference Center with a $25 donation and January 10th at noon a balloon release takes place at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Lowndes Associated Ministries to People (LAMP), Inc. is hosting a Clergy Chat and Chew Session on Monday, January 23rd from 11 am to noon. A free lunch will be included. This session is the first of many to provide a tour of the facilities and the organizations role in providing services for local homeless families with children, single men and single women. The lunch and learn is free and will be held at 714 Charlton St. in Valdosta. This lunch and learn is opened to local area Pastors, Clergy and Church Leaders in the nine surrounding counties that LAMP serves. Tickets are on sale for the 2017 Bird Supper, scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at the historic Georgia Railroad Depot, in Atlanta, beginning at 5 p.m. The traditional event, sponsored by the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners and the City of Valdosta, brings together hundreds of state officials and local business, professional and government personnel for a dinner of quail and conversations. Tickets may be purchased for $50 each at the Lowndes County Judicial-Administrative Complex, located at 327 North Ashley Street, First Floor-Utility Payment Window. Tickets are also available for purchase from the City Clerk at Valdosta City Hall, located at 216 E. Central Avenue.
