VALDOSTA – On Monday, local shops in Valdosta saw low foot traffic, but that doesn’t mean stores are losing business.
Instead, customers are heading to their online sites.
“When it comes to Cyber Monday, you’re really competing with everyone because everybody has mass media outlets,” says Holly Hillman, Owner of Anastasia’s Consignment Shoppe.
The huge shopping event doesn’t keep her store from using social media to their advantage by taking items from the rack, and posting them on Instagram.
Small stores like Anastasia’s are trying to make sure shopping dollars stay local.
At Reef Boutique, another local shop, boxes and invoices add up quickly, as Cyber Monday creates a shopping frenzy online.
“This time of year, we’re definitely going to have 60 plus packages going out every single day,” says Taylor Chatelain, a Reef employee.
The successful businesses show that shopping small isn’t a measure of their inventory or work.
“Definitely remember to shop local this Christmas because when you’re shopping local, you’re supporting a family directly”, says Hillman. “You’re supporting a business owner and employees that are all local.”
