VALDOSTA – Two juveniles were arrested Sunday for burglarizing a home after neighbors and one of the boys’ mothers assisted police.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., uniformed patrol officers with the Valdosta Police Department responded to a residence in the 300 block of Burrows Lane after receiving an emergency call from Lowndes County E-911 where a homeowner reported returning to his residence and observing two male juveniles running from his residence.
When officers arrived on scene, they observed that one of the doors on the homeowner’s residence had been badly damaged as the intruders forced their way inside.
The homeowner also confirmed that property had been stolen from inside his residence. Officers began processing the home for physical evidence and speaking with witnesses in the area.
A neighbor reported seeing two juveniles in area matching the exact description given by the victim; the neighbor also indicated the direction of travel of both subjects.
With this information, officers continued tracking the two juveniles to a residence in the 600 block of South Troup Street.
Contact was made with one of the juveniles and his mother; while the second juvenile, who was inside the residence, jumped out of a window in an attempt to flee from the scene. He was quickly apprehended by the investigating officers.
With the mother’s cooperation, physical evidence was located in the home of one of the juveniles which connected both to the burglary. Both were taken in custody and the case was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
“The Valdosta Police Department would like to commend the efforts of not only the neighbor who provided essential information in this case, but to the mother of one of the juvenile offenders who assisted officers in holding her son accountable for his actions. Further, the department is asking residents to be observant for anyone suspicious in your neighborhoods and when seeing something concerning, no matter how minor, please don’t be afraid to call 911,” said VPD Lt. Adam Bembry.
