LOWNDES Co. – We are beginning to enter the cooler months and people will soon begin using their heaters to heat their home. Just as important as the heater in your home are properly working smoke detectors.

Many people fail to check their smoke detector or change the batteries. These failures often put your safety at risk.

Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Chris Prine, in partnership with Safe Kids Lowndes County donated a number of smoke detectors to Interim Fire Chief Ashely Tye with Lowndes County Fire/Rescue and Chief Freddie Broome with the Valdosta Fire Department and will be given to residents of Valdosta and Lowndes County.

“Public safety is a group effort and goes beyond our law enforcement responsibilities. A smoke detector is a simple way to increase the safety of your home and more importantly, you and your family,” said Sheriff Chris Prine.
