LOWNDES Co. – Starting late into Thursday night, Lowndes County Emergency Management says they’ve responded to hundreds of downed trees and power lines.

They say Georgia Power has been working to restore power in more than 10,000 homes in the county and city area.

Once rain stopped on Friday, EMA continued discovering damages across town.

Fallen trees claimed several homes on Jerry Jones Drive, Branch Point Drive, Brookhaven Drive, and in several other neighborhoods.

A pine tree caved in the roof of a vacant house on Jerry Jones Dr.

It’s neighbor, Alfred Miller, says renters just moved out a couple weeks before.

“There’s a canopy of trees around. Every yard has a ton of trees in it and I’ve had a lot of trees removed from my yard before and with the remaining trees in my yard, I’m just fearful anytime something like this comes through,” says Miller.

South Georgia has also experienced severe flooding with the recent heavy rain.

Flood water trapped several residents on Jennifer Circle from getting to and from their homes.

The neighborhood pond overflowed into street and yards.

Lesa Sheo says she’s lived on Jennifer Circle for 7 years.

“This could’ve been really bad and we tried to prepare for it,” says Shoe. “Yes, there’s damage and yes I see the ducks out there in the pond, but I think we’re all very blessed. I’m hoping across Georgia people come out with this experience and not one much worse.”

She says although it could be worse, she’s never seen that much water in her neighborhood.

Local EMA says the cleanup could take days.

Besides the damage, they also say there are no reports of any injuries.
